Pay Per Click vs Organic Search Engine Marketing
The title of this article may seem like a strange question to be asking on a website with a fairly heavy slant towards this type of marketing but it is a question that needs to be asked.

In our nine years Alkemi has been approached by many companies asking us to take them on the search engine marketing journey. The amusing thing - dependant on your sense of humour - is that not every person who has come to us is either ready or even an appropriate candidate. Chances are that if you run a website you stand to benefit from Search Engine Marketing but you can make sure you do by ensuring you don't fall into any of the following scenarios.

Your business is at capacity and you have no plans for growth.

Lucky you! If you are in this situation then give yourself a pat on the back. You're a success and should be spending your time revelling in it.

When you are marketing your business it can be easy to lose site of the bigger picture. Never forget that marketing is only a supportive role, it is not an end in of itself. A successful SEM campaign will most likely grow your business. If you do not have the capacity to deal with these increases or have no plans to increase that capacity then an SEM campaign could do you more harm than good.

Search Engine Marketing is a very powerful tool and can do wonders for your growth, make sure you're ready for it.

Your site isn't converting your current traffic into customers.

The traditional view for Internet Marketing has always been - "Get More Traffic!" There is a sense of logic to that but in many ways it is putting the cart before the horse. Unless your website is doing its job properly by turning visitors into customers, then pouring traffic into it is not going to help. If anything it will be a waste of money.

A bricks and mortar store owner does not celebrate a day where one thousand people walked through their shop door and no one buys. So why should a website owner get excited about increased traffic unless that traffic is converting into new customers or achieving some other goal you have in mind?

If your website isn't working now, that isn't going to change if more people visit. Investing in Search Engine Marketing now is only going to be throwing good money after bad. If you find yourself in this boat it doesn't mean Search Engine Marketing isn't for you, it just means you should concentrate on other things first like increasing your site's conversion.

It has to happen now!

Like all thing worth doing in life, good SEM takes time. It isn't a quick fix solution and should never be considered as such. If, for instance, your business is in dire straights and you need some successes quickly, pouring your money into SEM is unlikely to turn your world around. It would be best you focus your energy in faster turn around solutions.

It is worth noting there is one aspect to SEM that has more immediate benefits and that is Pay per Click marketing. If you are in the situation described there may be some merit in look at Pay per Click? Never heard of it? Find out more here.

Nope. None of those sound like me.

Guess what? Bar one or two rare exceptions, if you don't fall into any of the situations above and you run a website then you are ready for Search Engine Marketing. Now it is time to turn to an Internet Marketing consultant to generate traffic or even engage in some self learning.

Whatever path you take, if you are after online success, tapping the huge potential of search engine traffic is one of the most effective and successful strategies you can use.
